Iqbal Singh Kartarpuri is an Indian advocate, legal consultant, human rights activist and public speaker associated with the Punjab and Haryana High Court. With more than twenty-six years of professional experience, he has practiced in constitutional law, banking and financial litigation, insolvency law, arbitration, criminal law, commercial disputes, public law and Non-Resident Indian legal affairs.

Early life and background

Iqbal Singh Kartarpuri was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, into a Punjabi Sikh family.

In 1984, following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the disturbances that occurred in several parts of India, his family migrated to Punjab.

The experiences associated with migration and rebuilding life in a new environment later shaped his professional commitment to legal rights, social harmony and access to justice.

Education

After settling in Punjab, Kartarpuri completed his education in Ludhiana. He pursued his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Lucknow, graduating in 1999.

During his academic years, he developed an interest in constitutional law, civil rights and public administration.

Career

Kartarpuri commenced legal practice after enrolling with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana in 2000. Beginning with civil and criminal litigation, he gradually expanded his practice into banking law, insolvency law, arbitration, constitutional law and commercial litigation.
