Dr. Gauhar Azad was born in Patna, Bihar, India to Dr. M. I. Azad, an ex-serviceman in the Reserve of India who later served as an advocate at the Patna High Court. His father is credited with founding Azimabad Colony in Patna.
He pursued his medical studies and earned an MBBS (MD Physician) degree, followed by advanced qualifications:
