Tapan Acharya (born 2 August 1981) is an Indian actor, producer, filmmaker, and television presenter known for his work in Konkani and Marathi cinema. Over the years, he has also taken up leadership roles in sports federations and tech policy initiatives in Goa.
Career
Acharya rose to prominence with his role in the Konkani film Aleesha (2004), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in the Regional Category. Before stepping into films, he started his public career as a television host for Chum Chum Chanana on Doordarshan Goa in 2001.
He has acted in a number of regional films and web series, and has directed over 100 short films, government ads, and corporate documentaries for organisations including the Election Commission of India and Goa Police.
Acharya co-produced the 2023 Konkani film Dil Dosti Deewangi and continues to be active in both filmmaking and public service.
Administrative and Policy Work
In June 2023, he was elected as the President of the Goa Roll Ball Association. By November 2023, he became President of the Roll Ball Federation of India, working on grassroots sports development.
In 2024, Acharya took leadership as the President of Goa AVCG-XR Association, a body supporting animation, VFX, gaming, and extended reality industries. This association works in alignment with the national AVGC-XR policy introduced by the Government of India in September 2024.
Education and Personal Interests
Born in the coastal village of Loliem-Polem in Goa into a Goud Saraswat Brahmin family, Acharya studied at Shri Damodar Vidhalaya before pursuing commerce at Shri Damodar College, Margao. He later enrolled in G.R. Kare Law College and completed a postgraduate diploma in management studies.
He is also a certified practitioner in astrology, numerology, Vedic studies, and gemology. His deep interest in mythology and traditional sciences is reflected in his personal pursuits.

Acharya is associated with the Rowing and Sculling Association de Goa, which operates under the Rowing Federation of India.
He was named as a State Youth Icon by the Election Commission of India to promote youth voting awareness in Goa.
